China EV News Roundup — October 14, 2026: Jetour Traveler 7 Hits the Market, Sweeping R&D Rules, Paris Debuts

China's "Silver October" launch wave rolled on today with the Jetour Traveler 7 going on sale, while Beijing moved to put the brakes on rushed "instant cars" with tough new verification rules. Overseas, the Paris Motor Show is in full swing with a record Chinese presence, and analysts are already resetting expectations for the fourth quarter.

Jetour Traveler 7 goes on sale — a boxy PHEV that targets young off-road fans

Chery's Jetour brand officially put the Traveler 7 on sale on October 14 after opening presales on September 23 at ¥149,900–179,900 (the C-DM plug-in hybrid at ¥159,900–179,900, approx. $20,900–25,100 USD). The C-DM plug-in hybrid pairs a 1.5T GDI engine with a three-motor system for a combined 575 kW and 835 N·m, rides on a 45.12 kWh CATL battery, delivers 251 km of CLTC electric range and 1,400 km combined range. The gasoline versions use 1.5T (135 kW) or 2.0T (187 kW) engines. Every variant gets XWD intelligent all-wheel drive, a 15.6-inch 2.5K central screen on the Snapdragon 8255 cockpit chip, and the Falcon 500 ADAS suite built on Horizon Robotics' Journey 6M (128 TOPS). Dimensions are 4,827 × 2,006 × 1,875 mm with a 2,800 mm wheelbase.

Four ministries draft sweeping R&D verification rules — the end of the "instant car"

On October 11, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), the Ministry of Public Security, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment and the State Administration for Market Regulation jointly released a draft notice on strengthening innovation design and R&D test verification for automotive products (征求意见稿). The proposed rules require newly filed products to complete comprehensive reliability and durability, structural reliability, and software-function reliability testing — with an environmental-adaptability verification period of at least one year that must include a "two winters and one summer" (两冬一夏) sequence, and a reliability test mileage of no less than 30,000 km. A red-line list bans fully hidden door handles, folding or flexible screens, and "zero-gravity"/rotating/bed-mode seats while driving, while emergency escape and braking controls must keep physical actuators. The rules would take effect January 1, 2027 for new filings, with existing models required to submit verification materials by July 1, 2027. Industry observers tie the slowdown in October launches directly to this tighter regime.

CLSA: Golden Week stimulus fading, but 2026 exports still set to top 10 million

CLSA (里昂) said on October 14 that China's Golden Week failed to deliver the expected buying rush, with major brands' orders up only about 8% week-on-week and momentum fading after the first three days. The broker forecasts 2026 vehicle exports above 10 million units (rising to 12 million in 2027), with growth cooling from roughly 67% to about 20%. On the order book, the mass market rose 13% WoW — BYD +15% and Leapmotor +12% led — while Li Auto fell 22% (it paused i6 orders), NIO −11% and XPeng −2%. CLSA kept BYD at "High Conviction Outperform" (target ¥120) and flagged that BYD's fast-charge battery capacity is still constrained by backlog.

Solid-state battery "15th Five-Year" plan fuels a pilot-line race

The newly released "15th Five-Year Plan for New-Type Battery Industries" — China's first national special plan for the sector — targets initial large-scale application of all-solid-state batteries by 2030 and LFP cycle life of up to 15,000 cycles. CATL has built a 1 GWh all-solid-state pilot line with a 500 Wh/kg lab sample and aims for small-batch production in 2027; BYD's sulfide all-solid cell reaches 400 Wh/kg, with its Pingshan 2 GWh pilot line having started in February 2026 and a 20 GWh Bishan line in progress. The plan reframes batteries as foundational infrastructure spanning EVs, storage and robotics.
