China's electric-vehicle momentum is on full display this week on two fronts at once: the 2026 Paris Motor Show and the World Intelligent Connected Vehicles Congress in Beijing both opened with a dense slate of Chinese debuts. The backdrop is a domestic market that keeps resetting its own records — in September, NEV models accounted for 67.0% of passenger-car retail sales, the highest penetration rate ever reported by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA). Here is what moved in Chinese EV news today.

1. Paris Motor Show: Chinese OEMs go wide on Europe

The Paris show has become the season's biggest stage for Chinese manufacturers to prove they are no longer just exporters but local ecosystem builders. According to a report from Economic Information Daily (via Toutiao, Oct 22), the Chinese pavilions mixed global premieres with concrete European localization plans:

  • GAC staged the global debut of the AION UT Cross and launched its GAC CARE+ service brand for Europe; the company plans a European R&D center in 2027 and a local engineer team of more than 100 by 2028.
  • Leapmotor brought the A05 to its European debut. Its Spanish footprint is also taking shape — the B10 has rolled off the line at the Zaragoza plant, and the Lafa5 is slated for European import in Q1 2027.
  • XPeng gave the long-wheelbase G9L a global launch and ran its first large-scale public NGP autonomous-driving trial in Europe.
  • Geely made its first appearance at Paris as a full group, with the plug-in hybrid Monjaro EM-i and the Lynk & Co 07 GT making European debuts.
  • Changan showed the Qiyuan Q05, Q06 and A06, while Avatr staged the global debut of the T09.
  • BYD presented the ATTO 8 as the first European-bound model to carry its second-generation Blade Battery.

The throughline: Chinese brands are now shipping not just cars but battery, ADAS, cockpit and charging capabilities — and pairing them with European R&D and manufacturing.

2. SAIC debuts an "AI-native" Roewe and the MG 07 at the Beijing ICV Congress

Running concurrently in Beijing (Oct 21–23), the World Intelligent Connected Vehicles Congress gave SAIC a home-stage launch pad. Per Jiefang Daily / NetEase (Oct 22), three smart EVs headlined the booth:

  • Roewe Jiayue 07 — billed as the "world's first AI-native car," co-developed by SAIC Roewe and ByteDance's Volcano Engine. It launches on October 23, sits in the roughly ¥150,000 (about $21,000) large-five-seat SUV class, and uses a 1.5L range-extender with 320 km CLTC electric range and 1,480 km total range. A Momenta R7 world model plus the in-house XHEART X7 chip drive the ADAS, and a Doubao cockpit assistant handles natural-language control. Small-order (小订) reservations have already passed 40,000.
  • MG 07 — the "young person's pure-blood coupe." The BEV version reaches up to 845 km CLTC, rides on an 800V platform with 5C charging and around 5-second 0–100 km/h acceleration; the plug-in hybrid uses DMH tech for a 1,745 km combined range.
  • All-new IM LS6 — a full-by-wire five-seat family SUV with SAIC's NEO three-electric architecture and the "IM Claw" agent.

3. Next-generation BYD Han surfaces in MIIT's 412th batch

BYD is widening the Han family again. A filing in the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology's (MIIT) 412th new-vehicle catalog, reported by Autohome (Oct 22), shows an all-new Han positioned above the current Da Han:

  • Dimensions: 5,156 × 1,969 × 1,507 mm, wheelbase 3,030 mm — longer than even the Han L.
  • BEV version: three motor specs up to 300 kW peak, LFP battery, with the top trim targeting over 1,000 km CLTC.
  • PHEV version: a 1.5T engine (110 kW net) paired with a 200 kW drive motor, with external charging supported.

This is a regulatory filing, not a launch — pricing and final specs are still to come — but it confirms BYD intends to blanket the large-sedan segment with both pure-electric and plug-in hybrid flavors.

4. CATL's Q3: revenue up 58.6%, global share at 39.4%, Hungary cell plant online

Contemporary Amperex Technology (CATL) reported third-quarter results that underline how fast the world's largest battery maker is scaling. Per Cailian Press (Oct 20), 163.com (Oct 21) and Workercn.cn (Oct 22):

  • Q3 revenue: ¥165.221 billion, +58.6% year-on-year (about $23 billion); net profit ¥21.246 billion, +14.5% YoY (about $3.0 billion).
  • Volume: power + storage battery sales topped 260 GWh in the first nine months; storage made up roughly a quarter and grew nearly 60% YoY.
  • Share: SNE Research puts CATL's global power-battery usage share at 39.4% for Jan–Aug (up 1.7 points YoY); the China Battery Industry Innovation Alliance cites a domestic share of 44.16% for Jan–Sept.
  • Overseas: the Debrecen, Hungary cell plant — roughly €7.34 billion invested, planned capacity 100 GWh — began cell production in September 2026, marking China's largest overseas battery-manufacturing investment. Overseas power-battery installations reached 34.0% share in Jan–Jul (up 43.7% YoY).
  • CATL's "Chocolate" battery-swap network has passed 2,500 stations across more than 200 cities in 31 provinces.
