China EV News Roundup — October 17, 2026: VW Anhui Puts Laser Radar Below ¥100k, Aion Ray7 Pre-Orders Open, Tank 500 Refreshed

China's new-energy vehicle market delivered a busy mid-October Friday and Saturday. Volkswagen's Anhui joint venture rewrote the price floor for lidar-assisted driving, GAC Aion opened pre-orders on a Huawei-powered fastback, and Great Wall refreshed its popular Tank 500 with plug-in hybrids. Here are the six stories overseas readers should know, plus a launch calendar for the rest of the month.

2026 Volkswagen ID.UNYX 06 (Yunyx 06) on display in China

1. Volkswagen Anhui refreshes the Yunyx 06 and 07 — lidar and city NOA from ¥99,900 (BEV)

On October 17, Volkswagen Anhui launched refreshed versions of its Yunyx (与众) 06 crossover and 07 liftback. The headline move is price: the Yunyx 07 Lite carries a "Double 11" promo price of ¥99,900 (about $13,900) — the first time a Volkswagen-branded EV has dipped below the ¥100,000 mark — while the Yunyx 06 range runs ¥129,900–169,900 (Lite promo ¥119,900, about $16,700–23,700).

Both cars add a lidar-equipped trim: a Horizon Robotics Journey 6H chip (420 TOPS), a 192-line lidar, 25 sensing components, and the Cariad-empowered HS8 end-to-end model that enables city NOA and door-to-door navigation. The Yunyx 06 gains a 77.5 kWh battery option with 630 km CLTC range; the 07 reaches 670 km CLTC on the larger pack (538 km on the 55.9 kWh pack).

Why it matters overseas: VW's China-specific brand is pulling the same advanced-driving hardware that sits in ¥300,000+ models down to the mass market. The sibling Yunyx 08, built on the VW–XPeng 800V platform, shows where the JV is heading on charging and architecture.

2. GAC Aion Ray7 opens pre-orders — Huawei drive unit, CATL battery, 700 km (BEV)

GAC Aion opened pre-orders for the Ray7 on October 17 (a ¥299 deposit previously locked ¥8,999 in launch benefits). The Ray7 is a large pure-electric fastback sedan: 180 kW Huawei DriveONE motor, CATL LFP battery, 700 km CLTC range, 9.7 kWh/100 km, a 192-line lidar, and a WeRide L4-derived end-to-end driving stack across 27 sensors. It also debuts Huawei's EMB brake-by-wire (78 ms response, 33 m from 100 km/h). Cabin tech is built around a Snapdragon 8295 chip.

External estimates put launch pricing in the ¥150,000–180,000 (about $20,900–25,100) band, positioning it against the Xiaomi SU7, Tesla Model 3, and Zeekr sedans. Pricing is to be confirmed at launch — treat the figures above as expectations, not official tags.

3. Refreshed Great Wall Tank 500 opens bookings — Hi4-T and Hi4-Z plug-in hybrids (PHEV)

On October 16, Great Wall opened pre-orders for the refreshed Tank 500 (¥3,000 deposit offsets ¥9,000 at purchase). The off-road SUV keeps three powertrains but leans harder into electrification:

  • Hi4-T — 2.0T + single motor + 9HAT, 310 kW system output, 37.1 kWh battery, 110 km WLTC electric range (plug-in hybrid).
  • Hi4-Z — 2.0T + dual motor + 3-speed DHT, 635 kW, 59.05 kWh battery, 201 km WLTC electric range (plug-in hybrid, larger-battery long-range variant).
  • A 3.0T V6 + 48V mild-hybrid gasoline option remains.

The refresh adds a Hesai lidar and Great Wall's CoffeePilot Ultra system (Nvidia Thor-U, 700 TOPS, 27 sensors) plus a new passenger-side screen. Autohome reported the PHEV versions at ¥335,000 (Hi4-T base) to ¥375,000 (Hi4-Z 智享) and claimed 11,000 orders within 24 hours; treat the order figure as a single outlet's report rather than an official count.

4. BYD's second-generation Seagull opens blind orders ahead of an October 20 launch (BEV)

BYD opened blind orders for the second-generation Seagull, with a launch set for October 20. The city EV switches to rear-wheel drive, a multi-link independent rear suspension, a 95 kW motor, and a second-generation Blade battery, with CLTC range of 320 km or 420 km and fast-charging support. It grows from four seats to five and adds a 94 L frunk. Pricing has not been announced — expect it at the October 20 debut.

5. Xiaomi's Pengcheng EREV SUV passes 73,000 locked orders (EREV)

Third-party order trackers (新能源探索录) put cumulative locked orders for Xiaomi's Pengcheng (澎程) range-extender SUV at roughly 73,000 as of week 41 (Oct 5–11). The Pengcheng N90 Max is a 2+2+3 seven-seater using Xiaomi's Kunlun super-range EREV system: 1,705 km combined range, about 464 km pure-electric range, and 92-octane fuel compatibility. As with all weekly order numbers here, these are analyst estimates, not official sales figures.

6. Weekly order tracker: most brands slip week-on-week, Galaxy and Qiyuan stand out (market)

Week 41 (Oct 5–11) estimates from the same tracker show a broadly softer market: BYD (Dynasty + Ocean) ~50,200, Geely 34,200, Leapmotor 22,700, Xiaomi 12,800, Tesla 9,100, Li Auto 8,000, XPeng 7,400, NIO 7,300. The only clear gainers were Changan Qiyuan (+12%) and Geely Galaxy (+76%), the latter buoyed by the Galaxy Warship 700. The dip is attributed to the National Day holiday tail and a cooler demand environment.

Launch calendar: models due this week

  • BYD second-generation Seagull — on sale October 20 (BEV; see item 4).
  • Li Auto i6 — launches October 28; 96 kWh battery, 780 km CLTC per the latest MIIT tax-exempt catalog (BEV).
  • Geely Xingrui L PLUS — launched October 17 as gasoline and a non-plug-in (HEV) hybrid; listed here for completeness as it falls outside the plug-in/BEV scope we normally track.
