China EV News Roundup — October 27, 2026: BYD Relaunches the Qin Plus, Wey Tilts Its Lanshan Toward Hardcore, and the Price War Bites Deeper
China's EV market opened the week with a pair of home-market debuts and a fresh reminder of how thin margins have become. BYD put its third-generation Qin Plus DM-i on sale, Wey unveiled a boxier, more rugged second-generation Lanshan PHEV, and industry data showed September's auto-sector profit margin sinking to a four-year low of 1.4%. Here is what moved in Chinese new-energy vehicles today.

BYD launches the third-generation Qin Plus DM-i
BYD officially launched the third-generation Qin Plus DM-i on October 27. The compact sedan grows into a larger footprint — 4,840 mm long with a 2,800 mm wheelbase, up 82 mm on the wheelbase versus the outgoing car — and switches to a multi-link rear suspension across the range.
Three trims are offered. Official guide prices run from RMB 79,900 to RMB 100,900 (about $11,900 to $15,100), with a limited-time launch offer from RMB 76,900 to RMB 97,900 (about $11,500 to $14,600). Power comes from the latest DM-i plug-in hybrid system with a 1.5-litre engine; LFP battery packs of 16.2 kWh and 24.3 kWh deliver 140 km and 220 km of CLTC electric range, and BYD quotes a 2.58 L/100 km fuel consumption with the battery depleted and a combined 2,290 km range on a full tank and charge. Higher trims add a roof-mounted LiDAR with the "God's Eye B" assisted-driving suite.

Wey unveils the second-generation Lanshan PHEV
Wey (WEY), Great Wall Motor's premium brand, unveiled the second-generation Lanshan on October 27. The three-row SUV abandons the soft family look for a boxy, hardcore stance with a chrome grille, round retro headlights, a roof rack and a tail-mounted spare wheel.
It is a plug-in hybrid: a 2.0-litre turbo engine paired with dual motors, offered with 53.6 kWh and 64.7 kWh battery packs. The specifications promise air suspension and a rear differential lock, positioning the Lanshan as a more off-road-capable alternative in China's crowded large PHEV SUV segment. Pricing was not disclosed at the unveiling.

Wey Gaoshan 8 HEV hits the market
One day earlier, on October 26, Wey launched the Gaoshan 8 as a strong hybrid (HEV) rather than a plug-in. It uses a 2.0-litre turbo hybrid engine rated at 175 kW with a small 3.64 kWh battery and standard Hi4 all-wheel drive, and carries a pre-launch price from RMB 275,800 (about $41,200). The Gaoshan 8 is aimed squarely at Toyota's Sienna in the hybrid MPV segment — a non-chargeable hybrid, so it sits outside China's NEV subsidy and registration definitions but competes directly on fuel economy.

XPeng has started global shipments of the MONA L05 crossover ahead of its China market launch scheduled for October 29. The model opened pre-sales on October 15 at RMB 169,800 (about $25,300) and is being positioned for roughly 65 export markets. The MONA line has become XPeng's volume play, and the L05 extends it upward as the brand pushes a fourth-quarter sales surge.

September auto-sector profit margin falls to 1.4%, a four-year low
Cui Dongshu, secretary-general of the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA), published industry profitability data on October 27 that underscores the pressure of the domestic price war. For the first nine months of 2026, the auto sector produced 23.37 million vehicles (down 4% year on year), posted revenue of RMB 8,043.5 billion (up 2.6%), and earned RMB 267.5 billion in profit (down 23%), a 3.3% sales margin. September alone was far worse: revenue of RMB 1,037.4 billion (up 0.6%), profit of RMB 14.2 billion (down 68%), and a 1.4% margin — the lowest in roughly four years.
The figures arrive as CAAM reported September NEV sales of 1.823 million units, a 61.6% share of all new-car sales, and nine-month NEV sales of 12.472 million, a 53.6% cumulative share.

Volkswagen weighs extending the XPeng-co-developed CEA to Europe
Volkswagen Group is considering rolling out the China Electronic Architecture (CEA) — developed with XPeng — to Volkswagen, Skoda and CUPRA models in Europe, according to an October 27 report. The CEA underpins VW's newest China-built EVs such as the ID. UNYX and is meant to consolidate software and electronics development. Bringing the China-tuned architecture westward would be a notable reversal of the usual east-to-west tech flow and is intended to cut European software costs.

SVOLT starts mass production of a 100-kWh hybrid solid-liquid battery
SVOLT (Honeycomb Energy) rolled its first 100-kWh hybrid solid-liquid (semi-solid-state) battery packs off the line on October 26. The company emphasises safety, fast charging and longevity for use in plug-in hybrids and range-extended EVs. Semi-solid electrolytes are one of the near-term routes Chinese battery makers are taking toward higher energy density without the manufacturing leap that fully solid-state cells still require.

L2+ driver assistance now in 88.9% of China's NEV passenger cars
Data cited on October 27 puts L2-plus advanced driver-assistance system fitment in China's new-energy passenger cars at 88.9% for January–August 2026. The figure reflects how quickly assisted driving has moved from a premium differentiator to a near-standard feature across Chinese EVs, and helps explain why BYD can now put LiDAR on an RMB 80,000 sedan.

Geely plans a Europe-exclusive model and a KO11 flagship SUV
Geely is planning to launch its first Europe-exclusive model next year, alongside a flagship KO11 SUV aimed at competing with Land Rover, a report said on October 26. The move fits a broader push by Chinese brands to tailor products to Western European tastes and regulations rather than simply exporting China-market cars.
