China EV News Roundup — October 15, 2026: Avatr 06 Refreshed, XPeng MONA L05 Debuts, VW ID.ERA 5X Set for November
China's EV market moved fast on October 15. Avatr refreshed its 06 with Huawei's Qiankun ADS 5, XPeng teased the MONA L05 ahead of a same-night presale, and SAIC Volkswagen confirmed the all-electric ID.ERA 5X for a November debut. Abroad, Paris Motor Show momentum kept building as BYD, XPeng, Leapmotor, Changan and Chery detailed European manufacturing and technology plans.

Avatr 06 refreshed: EREV and BEV from ¥205,900
Changan-backed Avatr launched the refreshed 2026 Avatr 06 on October 15, offering a Max range-extender (EREV) version and a Max battery-electric (BEV) version. Official guide prices are ¥219,900 and ¥229,900 respectively, with limited-time cash incentives bringing the out-the-door prices to ¥205,900 and ¥215,900 (about $28,700 and $30,100 at roughly ¥7.17 to the dollar).
The update centers on Huawei's Qiankun ADS 5 driver-assistance system, upgraded 4D millimeter-wave radar, a 192-line LiDAR and 27 sensors in total, plus the CAS 5.0 collision-avoidance stack. Inside, the HarmonySpace 5 cockpit pairs a 35.4-inch 4K panoramic screen with a 15.6-inch central display. All versions use CATL batteries. The EREV claims a 230 km CLTC pure-electric range, while the BEV rides an 800V silicon-carbide platform with a 650 km CLTC range and a 252 kW motor. Dimensions are 4,855 × 1,960 × 1,450 mm with a 2,940 mm wheelbase.
XPeng MONA L05 debuts tonight with presale (BEV + EREV)
XPeng will unveil the MONA L05 in China on the evening of October 15 and open presales the same night, with all trims and presale prices to be revealed at the event and a full launch expected within the month. Positioned as "young buyers' first large five-seat SUV," the L05 is 4,870 × 1,930 × 1,636 mm with a 2,940 mm wheelbase.
It comes in both BEV and EREV forms. The BEV uses a 183 kW rear motor with a 71.1 kWh LFP pack and CLTC ranges of 615, 635, 640 or 660 km. The EREV pairs a 1.5-liter range extender (70 kW) with a 183 kW drive motor and a 37.2 kWh battery, offering CLTC electric ranges of 237, 245 or 253 km. Industry observers expect pricing in the ¥140,000–180,000 band (roughly $19,500–25,100); final figures are pending tonight's reveal.
SAIC Volkswagen ID.ERA 5X confirmed for November (BEV)
At the ID.ERA 8X launch event on October 12, SAIC Volkswagen confirmed the ID.ERA 5X will go on sale in November as the family's first pure-electric model. It is the first Volkswagen mass-production vehicle built on the China-specific CMP platform with the CEA electronic architecture, co-developed with XPeng.
The 5X carries a 192-line LiDAR and a Horizon Robotics Journey 6H chip (420 TOPS) running the "Xingyun Zhixing" system for city and highway NOA. It uses CATL LFP packs of 45.8 or 58.5 kWh, with CLTC ranges of 415 and 520 km, and a 2,815 mm wheelbase in a 4,560 mm-long body. Blind ordering opened on September 15; pricing is still to be announced, with analysts pointing to a starting point near ¥130,000 (about $18,100).
BYD accelerates Europe manufacturing
At the Paris Motor Show, BYD executive vice president Stella Li said the company will invest heavily in European manufacturing. The Hungary plant is scheduled to begin mass production in the fourth quarter of 2026, and BYD plans a second and third European factory, with France on the candidate list. The comments deepen a strategy of localizing production as Chinese brands face rising trade barriers in the region.
XPeng opens global technology partnership
Also in Paris, XPeng chairman and CEO He Xiaopeng announced the company will open technology cooperation to global partners, covering vehicle platforms, modular technology and full toolchains. The scope extends to humanoid robots, Robotaxi, flying cars and the Turing AI chip. He said XPeng's Robotaxi business is in deep talks with several major European mobility platforms, with progress to be disclosed soon.
Chinese brands scale up at Paris: Leapmotor local production, Changan's three brands
Leapmotor used Paris to show its broadest European lineup yet, with the B10 beginning production at the Stellantis–Leapmotor plant in Zaragoza, Spain, aimed at the European market. The A05 made its European debut alongside the D19 flagship SUV.
Changan appeared with all three of its new-energy brands — Changan Qiyuan, Deepal and Avatr — marking the full European arrival of the trio. Changan says it has invested €1.18 billion in Europe, set up eight subsidiaries, and plans 180,000 units of local capacity by 2028.
Chery and Bosch sign ADAS project for six Europe-bound models
On October 14 in Paris, Chery and Bosch signed a project award covering Chery's first localized advanced-driving-assistance systems for the European market. The plan uses Bosch's fourth-generation multi-function camera (MPC4) with an integrated parking-and-driving system, targeted for production start in 2028 with more than 800,000 units over a five-year cycle.
Market data: early-October dip, but NEV share stays high
The China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) reported that nationwide passenger-vehicle retail reached 459,000 units in the first 11 days of October, down 24% year on year, with wholesale at 385,000 units, down 18%. The drop reflects the National Day holiday timing and a steep decline in combustion-engine demand rather than weak EV interest.
Longer-range data from the China Automobile Dealers Association (CADA) shows Chinese self-brand overseas sales of 3.36 million units in the first eight months of 2026, up 59% year on year, with the NEV share of those overseas sales at 24.8%, up 9 percentage points versus the same period in 2025.
Milestones: ONVO hits 200,000 deliveries; BYD's 150,000th NEV commercial vehicle
NIO's family brand ONVO (Le Dao) delivered its 200,000th vehicle — an L90 — roughly two years after the first L60 rolled out in 2024, a sign that NIO's multi-brand strategy has crossed a scale threshold.
Separately, BYD rolled out its 150,000th new-energy commercial vehicle, a Q3 electric tractor, at its Huaian truck plant, signaling a strategic tilt toward heavy-duty and long-haul electrification.
