China EV News Today (Oct 7): Four New SUVs Hit the Market — ID.AURA T6, FREELANDER 8, G700, Jiayue 07; BYD Da Han to Shows; 20 Brands Bound for Paris
China's new-energy vehicle (NEV) market rolled into the back half of the National Day Golden Week with a密集 launch wave. From a Volkswagen-badged electric SUV built on a Chinese joint-venture platform to a Chery–JLR "marriage 3.0" all-terrain flagship, the first week of October shows how broad the electrified mix has become — battery-electric (BEV), plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and extended-range (EREV) all shipping volume. Here is the Oct 7 roundup.

1. FAW-Volkswagen ID.AURA T6 launches — a "Chinese-smart" electric SUV from the JV
FAW-Volkswagen opened sales of the ID.AURA T6, the opening act of its "Smart EV 2.0" era, positioned as a family-oriented "steady-and-smart" pure-electric SUV. Pricing starts at ¥129,900 (approx. $18,100 USD, unofficial estimate) with the range-topping Max at ¥166,900 (approx. $23,200 USD).
The headline tech is the in-house CEA electric architecture paired with a 192-line lidar and a Horizon Robotics Journey 6H chip (≈420 TOPS), enabling city NOA and full-scenario parking. A 4 nm chip drives the 15.6-inch 2.5K cabin screen, four-zone voice and an AI assistant. CLTC range reaches up to 660 km, with a 90 L frunk and 576 L trunk. Local reports cite more than 20,000 pre-sale orders since launch.
Powertrain: BEV. Why it matters: a legacy JV fighting back with China-speed smart features rather than just a rebadged import.
2. FREELANDER Shenxingzhe 8 launches — Chery–JLR's "Marriage 3.0" all-terrain flagship
The FREELANDER Shenxingzhe 8 (神行者8), the first model of the Chery–Jaguar Land Rover joint venture's new independent brand, went on sale. Limited-time prices run ¥289,900–¥379,900 (approx. $40,400–$52,900 USD) across five trims.
It pairs an 800V extended-range (EREV) system — a 1.5T range extender plus dual motors (610 kW combined, 0–100 km/h in 4.6 s) — with a CATL 60.3 kWh battery for 310 km CLTC pure-electric range and 6C charging (20%–80% in ~12 min). Huawei Qiankun ADS 5 with an 896-line lidar handles driver assistance, while an i-ATS terrain system offers 9 modes and up to 270 mm ground clearance. Reports cite over 5,000 firm orders within 12 hours of launch.
Powertrain: EREV. Why it matters: the first serious "luxury all-terrain" EV that also works as a city commuter.
3. Chery Fangchengbao G700 (2027) launches — 800V EREV off-roader with 1,212 km range
Chery's premium off-road sub-brand Fangchengbao (纵横) G700 launched with five versions, MSRP ¥329,900–¥442,900 (limited-time ¥304,900–¥422,900). All use a longitudinal 2.0T hybrid engine + 2DHT + front/rear dual motors (510 kW motor output, 665 kW system), a body-on-frame chassis and tri-lock differentials.
Battery choice splits the range: a 34.13 kWh LFP pack gives 150 km CLTC (1,400 km combined), while a 59.45 kWh ternary pack lifts pure-electric range to 260 km (1,212 km combined). The 800V platform does 30%–80% in ~10 min; 6.6 kW V2L is standard. Top trims add Huawei Qiankun ADS 5 with an 896-line lidar.
Powertrain: EREV/PHEV. Why it matters: serious off-road credibility with EV-style daily range.
4. SAIC Roewe Jiayue 07 presale tops 30,000 small orders — EREV family SUV from ¥137,800
SAIC Roewe reported over 30,000 small (intent) orders two weeks into the presale of the Jiayue 07 (家越07), opened Sept 21. Three EREV trims are priced ¥137,800–¥152,500 (approx. $19,200–$21,200 USD, presale).
All three use a 1.5L range extender + rear motor (true EREV, not plug-in hybrid — the engine generates power, it does not drive the wheels). Battery options are 32.6 kWh (220 km CLTC) and 44.2 kWh (320 km CLTC), for up to 1,480 km combined range; 30%–80% fast charge in ~15 min. A Momenta R7 world model with a dedicated XHEART X7 chip handles parking and driving assistance. Final pricing to be confirmed at launch.
Powertrain: EREV. Why it matters: EREV is now the default formula for mainstream Chinese family SUVs.
5. BYD Da Han EV pre-sale rolls to regional auto shows, launches Oct 13
The BYD Da Han flagship sedan — already in pre-sale at ¥249,900–¥299,900 (approx. $34,800–$41,800 USD) — was showcased at the Xi'an and Fuzhou auto shows during Golden Week ahead of its Oct 13 launch. Specs confirmed: 5,256 mm body, 102.326 kWh second-generation Blade battery, up to 1,008 km CLTC, 9-minute flash charge, 800V-class architecture, air suspension + rear-wheel steering, and standard lidar with "God's Eye 5.0" driver assistance. A PHEV variant with ~370 km pure-electric range is also planned, keeping PHEV in BYD's flagship mix.
Powertrain: BEV + PHEV. Tracking note: first covered here on Oct 1 as the Dynasty line's 10-millionth vehicle; no new pricing actions since, launch still set for Oct 13.

6. BYD Sealion 08 on sale — BEV and PHEV in one SUV
BYD's Ocean-network flagship Sealion 08 (海狮08) launched at ¥229,900–¥279,900, offering both BEV (up to 900 km CLTC) and PHEV (400 km electric / 1,650 km combined) powertrains across 5- and 6-seat layouts. Standard kit includes God's Eye B lidar, air suspension and rear-wheel steering; a 21.4-inch rear roof screen and 25-speaker Devialet audio headline the six-seat "mobile first class" trim.
Powertrain: BEV + PHEV. Why it matters: BYD is flooding every price band with dual-powertrain SUVs.
7. 20 Chinese brands head to the Paris Motor Show — 7+ global debuts
The Paris Motor Show (Oct 12–18) will host 20 Chinese brands, including Aito, BYD, Changan, Chery, Denza, Dongfeng, GWM, Geely, Jaecoo, Leapmotor, Li Auto, Lotus, Lynk, Maxus, Omoda, smart, XPeng, Zeekr and others, with at least seven global debuts. Notable: the XPeng G9L (to be built at the Magna plant in Graz, Austria), Geely Monjaro EM-i and Lynk 07 GT European premieres, and the Li Auto i6 European debut. Overseas readers: this is the clearest signal yet of China's NEV export push into Europe.
8. Battery race: CATL 39.4%, BYD 15.1% of global installations
Per SNE Research (via CnEVPost), global power-battery installations in Jan–Aug 2026 were led by CATL at 39.4% and BYD at 15.1% — together 54.5% of the world market. The concentration underlines how upstream scale feeds the downstream price war playing out on show floors this month.
9. Dealer inventory warning hits 63.2% as "Golden Sept, Silver Oct" cools
The China Automobile Dealers Association reported a September inventory warning index of 63.2%, up 8.7 points year-on-year and a new high for the year; 54.2% of dealers said the peak season was weaker than usual. Expect aggressive year-end discounting across the NEV segment as Q4 begins.
