China NEV News Roundup: 2026 Voyah Dreamer Launches with Huawei ADS 4, GAC Aion i60 Adds L4 ADAS

China's new-energy vehicle (NEV) market delivered two flagship launches on September 15, 2026 — the refreshed Voyah Dreamer MPV with Huawei's ADS 4 and an L4-class ADAS-equipped GAC Aion i60 — while two corporate reshuffles (Huawei–Seres, GAC–FAW) and a massive safety recall rounded out a busy day. This wrap covers BEV, PHEV and EREV powertrains across news, technology and ownership angles.

2026 Voyah Dreamer launched: first MPV with Huawei ADS 4 and 800V hybrid tech

Voyah (a Dongfeng premium brand) launched the 2026 Dreamer MPV in Shanghai on September 15, offering both PHEV and BEV power and five trims across the "Kunpeng" and "Qiankun" series. The official guide price is ¥329,900–439,900 (approx. $45,800–$61,100 USD) — about ¥60,000 below the presale range of ¥389,900–459,900.

  • PHEV version: 62.5 kWh battery, 350 km CLTC pure-electric range, 1,531 km combined; 800V SiC architecture, 5C supercharging (20%→80% in 12 minutes), 490 kW system output.
  • BEV version: 108.7 kWh battery, 700 km range.
  • The Qiankun series is the first MPV to carry Huawei ADS 4 with HarmonySpace 5, using a 192-line LiDAR plus three 4D mmWave radars; the Kunpeng series uses L2.9 ADAS. It is also the first hybrid MPV with rear-wheel steering.

Voyah says the Dreamer has exceeded 130,000 cumulative deliveries at an average transaction price above ¥390,000. The launch comes as Dongfeng prepares a Hong Kong listing for Voyah via introduction.

2027 GAC Aion i60 launched: L4-class ADAS and a 1,738 km EREV

GAC Aion launched the 2027 Aion i60 on September 15, a compact "people's EREV/ BEV SUV" that headlines a标配 "tech trio."

  • EREV version: 1.5L range extender + 180 kW drive motor with Huawei DriveONE, 350 km CLTC pure-electric range and a claimed 1,738 km combined — marketed as the world's longest-range EREV; 3.73 kWh/L fuel-to-electric efficiency (CATARC "range-extender efficiency star" certified).
  • BEV version: amorphous-paper motor, 700 km CLTC, 3C charging (30%→80% in 15 minutes).
  • ADAS: a LiDAR version uses a WeRide L4-derived end-to-end algorithm with a 192-line LiDAR; a blue "smart-driving light" signals the hardware.

Pricing: final 2027 pricing was not disclosed at launch; GAC positioned it around the current 2026 model's ¥102,800–135,800 (approx. $14,300–$18,900 USD) range, with the LiDAR version expected near ¥120,000. Treat as reference until confirmed. The 2027 i60 keeps both EREV and BEV body styles.

Huawei–Seres (AITO) partnership shifts to asset-light model

On September 15, CLS (Cailian Press) reported that Huawei and Seres will restructure their "HIMA / smart-selection" cooperation this week: product, marketing, sales and service move from Huawei-led to Seres-led, with Huawei as an enabler. Huawei will pivot to a lighter asset role, while HIMA refocuses resources on the Zhijie, Xiangjie, Zunjie and Shangjie brands.

Seres shares fell on the news (A-share −5.09% to ¥45.46; H-share briefly −7%). The backdrop is financial pressure: Seres' H1 2026 revenue was ¥57.49B (−7.87% YoY) with a net loss of ¥1.717B. The move returns product leadership to Seres while Huawei keeps supplying HarmonyOS cabin, ADS and e-drive systems.

GAC–FAW restructuring: FAW to become GAC's second-largest shareholder

On the evening of September 14, GAC Group (A+H: 601238 / 2238) announced it signed a letter of intent with China FAW to buy, via share issuance, a stake in one of FAW's vehicle joint-venture companies (reportedly FAW Toyota, whose name is withheld because the target involves an overseas-listed entity). After completion, FAW will become GAC's second-largest and strategically influential shareholder. The deal is a material asset restructuring but not a change of control, and GAC A-shares are suspended up to 10 trading days.

Analysts frame it as a policy-driven, focused integration of overlapping JV assets (R&D and platform consolidation) rather than a full merger — aligned with the MIIT-led "15th Five-Year" NEV plan urging market-based M&A among automakers.

Xpeng X9 range-extender version to debut in October

At the Voyah Dreamer launch on September 15, Xpeng chairman He Xiaopeng posted that the Xpeng X9 range-extender (EREV) version will officially debut in October 2026. The X9 is Xpeng's flagship MPV; an EREV variant would extend its reach beyond pure-electric buyers and follow the brand's MONA L05 EREV expansion. No specs or price yet.

Market watch: PHEV growth cools as BEV re-accelerates

CAAM data cited in industry coverage shows the August NEV mix diverging: PHEV sales +7.5% YoY to 487,000 units, while BEV sales +40.5% YoY to 908,000 units. For context, full-year 2025 PHEV growth was +83.3% vs BEV +15.5% — so the relative gap is narrowing as BEV platforms (800V, longer range, faster charging) regain momentum. EREV/PHEV models remain critical for long-distance and charging-scarce markets, but the pure-EV curve is steepening.

Safety recall: ~4.27M EVs across nine brands; Tesla portion effective Sep 25

China's SAMR announced (Aug 28) a coordinated recall of roughly 4.27 million vehicles across nine brands — Tesla, Xiaomi, Leapmotor, Xpeng, Geely/Zeekr, Chery/iCAR, Dongfeng, BAIC BluePark and FAW. The core issue: interior emergency mechanical door-release handles are hard to see (color close to trim), risking delayed escape in a severe crash; the fix adds warning labels and an OTA post-crash window-drop strategy. Tesla's portion (domestic Model 3/Y and imports) takes effect September 25, 2026. Most other brands' remedies are effective immediately via dealer labeling/OTA.
