Li Auto i6 launches at ¥249,800, 780 km CLTC

Li Auto i6

On October 28, 2026, Li Auto put its 2026 i6 five-seat electric SUV on sale at a uniform retail price of ¥249,800 (about $35,200), with deliveries set to begin in early November. The same week, XPeng opened European order books for the G9L flagship SUV, and BYD refreshed its volume plug-in hybrid, the Qin Plus DM-i.

Li Auto i6: a 780 km family SUV under ¥250,000

The 2026 i6 is the brand's bet in the competitive large five-seat EV segment. It carries a 96 kWh "Lianshan" 5C battery and posts a CLTC range of 780 km in rear-wheel-drive form, dropping to 710 km for the dual-motor all-wheel-drive version. Every example gets dual-chamber air suspension, a 29-inch 6K panoramic screen, and Li Auto's in-house Mach M100 driver-assistance chip rated at 1,280 TOPS. At ¥249,800 it undercuts most Western-branded electric SUVs of similar size while matching their range and chassis hardware.

XPeng G9L opens European order books

At the Paris Motor Show on October 12, XPeng opened orders for the G9L across eight European markets. Local starting prices (VAT included): France €74,990, Germany €74,600, Belgium €74,990, Austria €75,600, Netherlands €75,990, Norway 749,900 kroner, Denmark 639,995 kroner, and Sweden 849,900 kroner. Two differences matter for European buyers versus the Chinese version: Europe receives the battery-electric version only, while China also sells a range-extender (EREV) variant, and Europe gets newly developed six- and seven-seat layouts, whereas the domestic model is a five-seater. The G9L is the fourth XPeng built at Magna's plant in Graz, Austria, alongside the G6, G9 and P7+.

The closest competitors are the Tesla Model Y (from about €45,000 in France) and the seven-seat Peugeot e-5008 (from about €50,000) — both shorter on range and, in the Tesla's case, limited to five seats.

BYD third-gen Qin Plus DM-i from ¥76,900

BYD launched the third-generation Qin Plus DM-i at a limited-time price of ¥76,900 (about $10,800). The plug-in hybrid now offers 140 km and 220 km electric-range versions, pushing combined range past 2,290 km and cutting depleted-fuel consumption to a claimed 2.58 L/100 km — the lowest in its class. It is available with BYD's "God's Eye" assisted-driving packages and the DiLink 150 cabin system. As one of China's highest-volume cars, the Qin Plus sets the price floor that rivals such as the Geely Galaxy and Chery must match.

Around the industry

  • Svolt begins mass production of a 100 kWh semi-solid fast-charging pack. The cell supports 900-volt, 6C charging and adds about 500 km of range in 12 minutes, according to the supplier.
  • Volkswagen may adopt XPeng's co-developed architecture for roughly 75% of next-generation VW, Skoda and Cupra EVs, pending group-management review — a sign of how far Chinese EV platforms have moved up the value chain.
  • CATL signed a deal with Germany's Intilion to deploy 3 GWh of sodium-ion storage over five years across Germany, Switzerland and Austria, extending CATL's lead beyond passenger-car cells.
