China NEV Daily (Aug 27, 2026): All-New XPeng P7 Launches From $30,900, AION V Home and Arcfox Alpha T7 Debut, Leapmotor Targets 1 Million Deliveries
China's electric-vehicle market delivered a packed news day on August 27, 2026. The headline act was XPeng's all-new P7 sports sedan, which started at RMB 219,800 (about $30,900) and racked up 10,000 orders in seven minutes. Alongside it, GAC Aion, BAIC Arcfox, Volvo (China) and Chery all pushed new electrified models, while Leapmotor and Xiaomi signaled aggressive overseas ambition. Solid-state battery standardization and a cooling retail market rounded out the picture.
1. All-new XPeng P7 launches, 10,000 orders in seven minutes (BEV)

XPeng unveiled the second-generation P7 at its Guangzhou plant on August 27. The "AI luxury sports sedan" spans four Ultra trims — 702 Long-Range, 820 Long-Range, 750 AWD Performance and 750 AWD Pengyi (gullwing) — priced from RMB 219,800 to RMB 301,800 (approximately $30,900–$42,500 USD).
Highlights: an 800V SiC platform with a 92.2 kWh ternary pack, CLTC range up to 820 km, and 5C charging that adds 525 km in 10 minutes (10–80% in 11 minutes). Three in-house Turing AI chips deliver 2,250 TOPS, driving a local VLA driving model and a VLM cockpit assistant. The car is 5,017 mm long, rides on dual-chamber air springs and DCC damping, and hits 0–100 km/h in 3.7 s. XPeng says it aims to return the P7 to the "top three" of China's above-20k-USD pure-EV sedan segment alongside the Xiaomi SU7 and Tesla Model 3.
Note: This is the China-market launch version. The P7 is not currently sold in Europe or North America; overseas buyers would need to wait for a future export plan, and specs (charging port, ADAS feature set, trim names) would likely differ.

2. GAC Aion V Home ("Bawanglong Family Edition") launches from $13,350 (BEV)

GAC Aion launched the AION V Home, a family-focused variant of its compact electric SUV, at RMB 109,800–135,800 (about $15,500–$19,100; from RMB 94,800 / ~$13,350 after trade-in subsidy). The "Home" edition adds 21 upgrades aimed at family use: 1-meter-plus rear head and leg room, near-90-degree rear doors, 8-point massage front seats, 137-degree reclining rear backrest with heating, heated steering wheel, and a five-link rear suspension with hydraulic bushings.
It keeps a 126-line LiDAR and Orin-X, with city NDA coverage claimed at 99%, and max range up to 650 km (15-min fast charge adds 330 km). Aion is positioning it as "smart driving for the whole family" dropped from the 30k-USD class to the 10k-USD class.

3. BAIC Arcfox Alpha T7 presale opens, 10k pre-orders in two hours (EREV + BEV)

BAIC's premium EV brand Arcfox opened presales for the Alpha T7 SUV on August 26, with the range-extender version from RMB 137,800 (about $19,400) after a RMB 4,000 trade-in subsidy, and the pure-electric version from RMB 140,800 (~$19,800). It bundles Huawei Qiankun ADS 5 Pro, a CATL battery, Magna manufacturing and Alibaba/Qwen + Doubao AI agents.
Two powertrains: BEV with 715 km CLTC range, and EREV with 1,315 km combined range. Presales passed 10,000 orders within two hours. The Alpha T7 is a compact SUV that drops flagship-level intelligent driving and a name-brand battery into the sub-20k-USD segment.

4. Volvo XC70 presale opens — first SMA plug-in hybrid SUV (PHEV)

Volvo opened presales for the XC70, its first SUV on the new SMA (Scalable Modular Architecture) hybrid platform, at RMB 299,900–329,900 (approximately $42,200–$46,500 USD). Positioned between the 60- and 90-series, it offers about 200 km of pure-electric CLTC range — a long EV buffer for a plug-in hybrid — letting Volvo chase the luxury PHEV gap as German rivals slow their electrification.
Note: The XC70 name revives a classic Volvo wagon, but this China-built SMA SUV is a distinct model. The China-spec version shown differs from any global Volvo PHEV: longer EV range, China-tuned ADAS, and trim naming. No overseas variant has been announced.

5. Geely Galaxy Xingyao 6 official images released (PHEV)

Geely released official images of the Galaxy Xingyao 6 sedan on August 27. It pairs a 1.5L naturally aspirated engine with Geely's LeiShen DM-i-style hybrid system and is expected to start around RMB 100,000 (about $14,100), squarely targeting the BYD Qin PLUS DM-i heartland.
The Xingyao 6 extends Geely's push to flood the mainstream PHEV sedan segment with tech once reserved for premium cars — a clear signal that the plug-in hybrid price war is heating up below the 15k-USD line.
6. Chery Fulwin T7 launches, 600 km for under $15k (BEV)

Chery launched the Fulwin T7 (Fengyun T7) electric compact SUV at RMB 94,900–115,900 (approximately $13,400–$16,300 USD). It carries a 65.05 kWh "Rhinoceros" battery with 600 km CLTC range and 30–80% charging in 20 minutes, plus a 178 kW drive motor, Falcon 500 driver assistance and the Lingxi 2.0 cockpit.
Chery is using "tech parity plus price penetration" to reset the value ceiling in the A-segment electric SUV class — 600 km of range under $15k was unthinkable two years ago.

7. Leapmotor targets 1 million 2026 deliveries, 200k exports (overseas)

Leapmotor vice president Wu Baojun told Bloomberg TV (Aug 25) the company could hit 1 million vehicle deliveries in 2026, after 356,487 in the first half and a first-ever 100k+ sales month in July. The export target is 200,000 units, up sharply from about 67,000 last year.
Leapmotor's low-cost model range and its Stellantis-backed overseas channel make it one of the most credible Chinese volume exporters. Wu said monthly deliveries should stay above 100k through December.

8. Xiaomi Auto opens global dealer inquiries ahead of 2027 Europe entry (overseas)

Xiaomi Auto launched its global website and began soliciting dealer inquiries, confirming a 2027 entry into the European market and further regions afterward. The move follows the Chengdu show debut of the Pengcheng N70 Max (RMB 259,900) and N90 Max (RMB 299,900) range-extended SUVs, and news that cumulative SU7 deliveries have passed 500,000 units.
Xiaomi also said its YU7 earned the highest C-IASI safety rating (four "G+" grades). The brand's rapid scaling — and its plan to sell in Europe as a premium EV name — will be a key storyline into 2027.

9. China leads first global solid-state battery standard (IEC)

China chaired the first global solid-state battery standard project approved by the IEC on August 27, a milestone for an industry where China already dominates cell production. Separately, CATL's sulfide-route pilot line in Yibin reached sample energy density above 500 Wh/kg with electrolyte cost down over 35%, and BYD said its 20 GWh all-solid-state mass-production line in Chongqing's Bishan district will break ground in Q3 2026.
The standard gives Chinese and Korean cell makers a common language as solid-state moves from "technically feasible" toward "economically feasible." August Lithium-ion output hit 304 GWh (up 7.4% MoM), with storage cells the fastest-growing segment.

10. NEV retail penetration tops 60% for 4 straight months; August demand soft

The China Association of Automobile Manufacturers reported NEV retail penetration above 60% for four consecutive months — roughly two of every three passenger cars sold are now electrified. But the China Passenger Car Market Information (CPCA) data for August 1–23 showed NEV retail at 614,000 units, down 12% year-on-year, with overall passenger-vehicle retail down 22%. For the full month, CPCA forecasts about 1.58 million retail units (NEV ~1.04 million, 65.8% penetration).
Chinese-brand passenger-car domestic share reached 77.4% in July (vs 40.3% in 2013). The read: supply is frenzied (nine models launched in a single day on Aug 27) while demand is cooling — the "Golden September, Silver October" season will be the real test.
